WHO WE ARE
Don't Rely On Luck. Trust Your Neighbor.
Kismet Fence is a locally owned Licensed Contractor, No. 0446811126. Our shop is in Farmington, about 42 miles and 46 minutes from Garfield.
Garfield is a Benton County town of about 600 people where every lot is at least an acre and farming is allowed alongside homes. Its zoning code is short on fence rules: 8 feet is the limit, and corner lots keep a 25-foot triangle clear.
We confirm the permit question with City Hall, (479) 359-3652, before every Garfield job.
Garfield lots start at an acre, so fence runs here are long. A long run only stays straight if every post holds.
That is the reason our post holes go deeper than the usual.
Wood gates are built on metal frames and hung on metal posts, so they do not sag over time.
Our warranty covers the workmanship for the lifetime of the fence.

CUSTOM WOOD & PRIVACY FENCES
Garfield allows fences up to eight feet, and anything taller needs the Planning Commission and City Council to approve it.
Styles: side-by-side, board-on-board, shadowbox or horizontal, in cedar or pressure-treated pine with dog-ear pickets.
Posts and gates: a metal frame and metal posts on each wood gate, and PostMaster steel posts where you want them on a long run.
Corner lots: where two-way streets meet, nothing between 2 and 8 feet above the curb can block the 25-foot triangle.
Permit: Garfield’s zoning code does not list a fence permit, and the state code exempts fences up to 7 feet. An 8-foot fence is over that line, so we check with City Hall first.
See our cedar fences, pressure-treated pine fences, horizontal fences and steel post upgrade.
ORNAMENTAL STEEL & ALUMINUM
Garfield lets fences and walls sit inside setbacks as long as they do not block visibility. An open metal fence along the road keeps the view and still marks the line.
Styles: aluminum in flat top, extended picket or puppy picket, and black welded steel.
Corners: the 25-foot triangle at an intersection stays open between 2 and 8 feet.
Pools: Garfield leaves pool barriers to the state pool code, and a picket pool fence is built to it.

RESIDENTIAL & COMMERCIAL CHAIN LINK FENCES
Chain link is the most cost-effective way to fence a dog yard or a garden on a Garfield acre.
Residential: galvanized or black vinyl-coated mesh, up to the 8-foot limit.
Commercial: heavier-gauge mesh, with slats and security options as needed.
Pools: pool runs get 1-1/4-inch mesh, because standard 2-inch mesh does not meet the pool code.
VINYL & COMPOSITE
Vinyl and composite follow the same two Garfield rules as any other fence: 8 feet at most, and clear of the corner triangle.
Vinyl: solid privacy panels in white or tan.
Composite: Trex, TimberTech, SimTek or FenceTrac.
Low upkeep: no staining, no sealing and no rot.

FARM & RANCH FENCES
Garfield’s code says every district allows agricultural activities, and its minimum lot is one acre, so farm fence is allowed alongside homes.
Barbed wire and electric: the zoning code does not address either one. The height and corner rules still apply.
What we build: woven field fence, no-climb horse fence, high-tensile wire, welded pipe and livestock panels.
Fines: a zoning violation can be fined up to $250 for each day it continues, so we settle the height and the corner before we build.
GATE AUTOMATION
A gate follows the same Garfield rules as the fence: 8 feet at most, and out of the corner triangle.
Gate types: walk gates and estate swing gates, plus sliding and cantilever gates for wide drives.
Openers: hard-wired or solar. Solar suits a gate that sits far from a power source.
Setbacks: Garfield allows a gate inside a setback as long as it does not block visibility.

Garfield Fence Rules Code & Permit Guide
Garfield keeps its fence rules in its Zoning Code, adopted in 2013. They are short: an 8-foot limit and a clear triangle at corners. This is what the code says, and where it came from.
Read the CodeWe confirm the permit question with City Hall, (479) 359-3652, before every job.
How Tall And Where
Up to 8 feet, with a clear triangle at corners.
How tall can my fence be?
8 feet, unless the Planning Commission and City Council approve more. Fences around tennis courts and similar recreation areas are exempt (Sec. 10).
Can my fence go in a setback?
Yes, if visibility stays clear. Garfield allows fences, walls and signs inside a setback, provided they leave visibility clear (Sec. 9).
What about corner lots?
Keep a 25-foot triangle open. The triangle runs 25 feet from the corner down each street-side property line. Where two-way streets meet, nothing inside it can block vision between 2 and 8 feet above the curb (Sec. 10).
Permits And Fines
Garfield’s zoning code does not list a fence permit.
Do I need a permit for a fence?
We check with City Hall. Garfield’s zoning code does not list a fence permit, and the state residential code exempts fences up to 7 feet. We confirm with City Hall, (479) 359-3652, before we build.
What if a fence breaks the rules?
Up to $250. After a notice of violation, each day a violation continues counts as a separate offense, with fines of up to $250 heard in Benton County District Court (Sec. 3).
Farms And Big Lots
Every lot in Garfield is at least an acre, and farming is allowed alongside homes.
Is farm fencing allowed?
Yes. Garfield’s code says every district allows agricultural activities to coexist, and its minimum lot size is 1 acre (Sec. 5 and Sec. 7).
What about barbed wire or electric fence?
Not singled out. Garfield’s zoning code does not address barbed wire or electric fence. Its height and corner rules still apply.
Pools
Garfield’s code leaves pool barriers to the state code, which sends them to the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code.
Does a pool need a permit?
Plan on one. The state residential code exempts only small prefabricated pools under 24 inches deep, and the barrier has to meet the rules below.
How tall does a pool fence have to be?
48 inches, measured on the outside of the fence, and that height has to hold for 3 feet out from the fence so nothing outside becomes a step up.
How big can the gaps be?
Smaller than a 4-inch ball. No opening may let a 4-inch sphere through, and the gap under the fence can be no more than 2 inches over grass or gravel, or 4 inches over concrete.
Can I use chain link around a pool?
Only small mesh. Chain link openings can be no larger than 1-3/4 inches, so standard 2-inch mesh does not qualify. We use 1-1/4-inch pool mesh.
Does it matter which side the rails are on?
Yes. If the tops of the horizontal rails are less than 45 inches apart, the rails go on the pool side and pickets can be no more than 1-3/4 inches apart. With rails 45 inches or more apart, pickets can be up to 4 inches apart.
What does the gate need?
Self-closing and self-latching. It must open away from the pool and take a lock, with the latch release at least 54 inches up unless the release is on the pool side. On a double gate, one leaf stays secured in place.
