WHO WE ARE
Don't Rely On Luck. Trust Your Neighbor.
Kismet Fence is a locally owned Licensed Contractor, No. 0446811126. Our shop is in Farmington, about 31 miles and 42 minutes from Gentry.
Gentry is a western Benton County city of about 3,800 people that grew up around apple orchards and the railroad. Its fence rules are short: 6 feet from the front of the house back, an ornamental fence up to 3½ feet in front, clear views at corners and driveways, and no fence permit.
Short does not mean loose. Blocking a driver’s view above 3 feet can be fined up to $250 a day, so we check road-front runs before we quote.
Gentry does not permit or inspect fences. What stands behind the build is the builder.
Our post holes go deeper, because posts are what fail first.
Wood gates are hung on metal posts with a metal frame, so they stay level.
And the workmanship is covered for the lifetime of the fence.

CUSTOM WOOD & PRIVACY FENCES
Gentry allows a 6-foot fence from the front of the house back to the rear lot line, and it does not require a fence permit. A standard six-foot privacy fence fits the rule as written.
In front of the house: only an ornamental fence, hedge or wall up to 3½ feet is allowed in or around the front yard, so a privacy fence starts at the front corner of the house.
Styles: shadowbox, board-on-board, side-by-side or horizontal, in cedar or pressure-treated pine.
Near the street: nothing over 3 feet can block the view of a driver on the street or pulling onto it, and on a corner lot a 25-foot triangle stays clear.
Posts and gates: metal frames and metal posts on the gates, with PostMaster steel posts as an upgrade.
See our cedar fences, pressure-treated pine fences, horizontal fences and steel post upgrade.
ORNAMENTAL STEEL & ALUMINUM
The front yard is where ornamental fence belongs in Gentry. The code allows an ornamental fence, hedge or wall up to 3½ feet there.
Driver’s view: Gentry makes it unlawful to block a driver’s view above 3 feet at the street, so an open picket fence is the safer choice along the road.
Styles: puppy picket, flat top and extended picket aluminum, or black welded steel.
Pools: Gentry requires a building permit for a pool, and the barrier follows the state pool code.

RESIDENTIAL & COMMERCIAL CHAIN LINK FENCES
Gentry requires dog owners to keep a dog in an adequate fence or enclosure, inside a building, or on a secure chain or leash. Chain link is the low-cost way to meet the fence option.
Residential: galvanized or black vinyl-coated mesh, up to 6 feet behind the front of the house.
Commercial: heavier commercial mesh, with slats or security add-ons.
Pools: standard 2-inch mesh is too open for a pool barrier, so pool runs are built with 1-1/4-inch mesh.
VINYL & COMPOSITE
Vinyl and composite follow Gentry’s one height rule: 6 feet from the front of the house back.
Vinyl: white or tan privacy panels with a heavier wall than big-box panels.
Composite: TimberTech, Trex, SimTek and FenceTrac.
No permit: Gentry’s building permit list does not include fences, and the state code exempts fences up to 7 feet.

FARM & RANCH FENCES
Gentry’s code does not single out barbed wire or electric fence. Its limits on fences in the front yard and near streets still apply, so we check road-front runs before quoting.
What we build: woven field fence, no-climb horse fence, high-tensile wire, welded pipe and livestock panels.
Along the road: anything that blocks a driver’s view above 3 feet is unlawful, which matters for a pasture fence at a driveway or a curve.
GATE AUTOMATION
A driveway gate in Gentry sits where the view rule applies: nothing can block a driver’s view above 3 feet at the street.
Gate types: walk gates, estate swing gates, sliding gates and cantilever gates in open designs.
Openers: solar or hard-wired, with a keypad, a remote or phone control.
Front yard: in or around the front yard, an ornamental gate up to 3½ feet matches what the code allows for the fence.

Gentry Fence Rules Code & Permit Guide
Gentry keeps its fence rules in the Gentry Municipal Code, current through December 2024. They are short: a height limit, a front-yard limit and two rules that keep drivers’ views clear. This is what the code says, and where it came from.
Read the CodeNo fence permit. Questions go to the building inspector at City Hall, (479) 736-2555.
How Tall Can My Fence Be?
Gentry keeps it simple: 6 feet from the front of the house back, 3½ feet in front.
How tall can my fence be?
6 feet from the front of the house back to the rear lot line (Sec. 14.04.10).
What can go in my front yard?
An ornamental fence up to 3½ feet. Gentry allows an ornamental fence, hedge or wall up to 3½ feet tall in, or around, the front yard.
Corners And Streets
Two rules keep drivers’ views clear, and one of them carries a daily fine.
What about corner lots?
Keep a 25-foot triangle clear. No fence can block traffic visibility on a curve or inside the triangle formed by the corner and a point 25 feet down each street (Sec. 14.04.05).
What about driveways and the street?
Nothing over 3 feet that blocks a driver. Gentry makes it unlawful for any fence, sign or planting to block the view of drivers on the street, or pulling onto it, at more than 3 feet above the street pavement. The fine is up to $250 a day (Sec. 8.28.01).
Permits
Gentry’s building permit list does not include fences.
Do I need a permit for a 6-foot privacy fence?
No city permit. Gentry requires building permits for homes, pools, carports, garages, portable buildings and business buildings. Fences are not on the list (Sec. 11.04.01), and the state residential code exempts fences up to 7 feet.
Who can I ask?
City Hall, (479) 736-2555. Gentry’s building inspector handles code questions there.
Dogs
Gentry has a rule about keeping dogs confined.
Does Gentry require a fence for my dog?
Some kind of confinement. Gentry requires dog owners to keep a dog in an adequate fence or enclosure, inside a building, or on a chain or leash attached to something solid (Sec. 6.04.01).
Pools
Gentry requires a building permit for a pool but leaves the barrier rules to the state code, which sends them to the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code.
Does a pool need a permit?
Yes. Gentry requires a building permit for a swimming pool (Sec. 11.04.01). It counts a pool as an accessory structure, so the pool has to meet setbacks and keep at least 3 feet of clear space from the house and other accessory structures (Sec. 14.04.10).
How tall does a pool fence have to be?
48 inches, measured on the outside of the fence, and that height has to hold for 3 feet out from the fence so nothing outside becomes a step up.
How big can the gaps be?
Smaller than a 4-inch ball. No opening may let a 4-inch sphere through, and the gap under the fence can be no more than 2 inches over grass or gravel, or 4 inches over concrete.
Can I use chain link around a pool?
Only small mesh. Chain link openings can be no larger than 1-3/4 inches, so standard 2-inch mesh does not qualify. We use 1-1/4-inch pool mesh.
Does it matter which side the rails are on?
Yes. If the tops of the horizontal rails are less than 45 inches apart, the rails go on the pool side and pickets can be no more than 1-3/4 inches apart. With rails 45 inches or more apart, pickets can be up to 4 inches apart.
What does the gate need?
Self-closing and self-latching. It must open away from the pool and take a lock, with the latch release at least 54 inches up unless the release is on the pool side. On a double gate, one leaf stays secured in place.
