WHO WE ARE
Don't Rely On Luck. Trust Your Neighbor.
Kismet Fence is a locally owned Licensed Contractor, No. 0446811126. Our shop is in Farmington, about 37 miles and 40 minutes from Pea Ridge.
Pea Ridge is a Benton County city on a ridge of the Ozarks, best known for the Civil War battlefield about five miles east of town. Its zoning code keeps fence rules simple: up to 8 feet anywhere on the lot, front yard included, with corners kept clear and the finished side facing out.
Barbed wire and electric fence are off limits on lots under an acre. The code has no separate fence permit, so we confirm with the Building Official before every Pea Ridge job.
Pea Ridge asks that the finished side of a fence face the neighbors. The posts and rails go on your side.
We build that way everywhere, and we start below ground with deeper post holes.
Wood gates are made with metal frames and metal posts so they do not sag.
Our workmanship warranty lasts the lifetime of the fence.

CUSTOM WOOD & PRIVACY FENCES
Pea Ridge allows fences up to eight feet, in the front yard as well as the back. The state code asks for a building permit only above seven, so a six-foot privacy fence is a simple build here.
Finished side out: the posts and rails face your side, so the neighbors see the finished face. If a neighbor agrees to posts on their side, we want that in writing first.
Styles: cedar or pressure-treated pine, as side-by-side, board-on-board, shadowbox or horizontal.
Corner lots: the 25-foot sight triangle at the intersection stays clear between 2 and 8 feet high, and the city can enlarge it where traffic calls for it.
Covenants: a neighborhood can be stricter than the city about front-yard fences, so we read yours before we quote.
Steel posts: exposed steel has to be galvanized or finish-coated. PostMaster steel posts are an option on any wood fence.
See our cedar fences, pressure-treated pine fences, horizontal fences and steel post upgrade.
ORNAMENTAL STEEL & ALUMINUM
Pea Ridge sets no separate front-yard height, so ornamental metal here is a choice about looks and sight lines, not a way around a rule.
Corners: an open fence is the usual pick near an intersection, where nothing can block vision between 2 and 8 feet inside the sight triangle.
Finish: steel that is not galvanized needs a color finish coat against rust, which black ornamental steel already has.
Styles: extended picket, puppy picket and flat top aluminum, and welded steel.

RESIDENTIAL & COMMERCIAL CHAIN LINK FENCES
Chain link is the most affordable way to fence a Pea Ridge yard, and galvanized mesh needs no added finish under the city’s steel rule.
Residential: galvanized or black vinyl-coated, up to 8 feet.
Commercial: heavier mesh with slats and security options. Fencing in the industrial district is exempt from the 8-foot limit.
Pools: pool barriers call for 1-1/4-inch mesh, because 2-inch chain link is too open.
VINYL & COMPOSITE
Vinyl and composite fit Pea Ridge’s upkeep rule well: a fence has to stay upright and in its original condition, and these have no stain to fade.
Vinyl: tan or white privacy panels.
Composite: SimTek, TimberTech, Trex and FenceTrac.
Height: up to 8 feet anywhere on the lot, with a building permit above 7.

FARM & RANCH FENCES
Pea Ridge prohibits barbed wire and electric fence on any lot under one acre, so on a smaller place we build livestock fence without them.
An acre or more: the ban stops at one acre, so larger tracts have more options. We check the lot size first.
What we build: woven wire, no-climb horse fence, field fence, high-tensile wire and welded pipe.
GATE AUTOMATION
With no front-yard height limit, a full-height driveway gate is allowed in Pea Ridge as long as it stays clear of the corner sight triangle.
Gate types: walk gates, estate swing gates, and sliding or cantilever gates.
Openers: solar or hard-wired, with remote, keypad or phone control.
Steel: gate steel that is not galvanized needs a finish coat under the city’s rule.

Pea Ridge Fence Rules Code & Permit Guide
Pea Ridge keeps its fence rules in its zoning code, Sec. 14.04.09, with the setback rule beside it. The building code decides permits, and the state pool code decides what goes around a pool. This is what each one says, and where it came from.
Building DepartmentNo separate fence permit in the code. Taller fences and pools: check with the Building Department, (479) 451-1122 ext. 106.
How Tall Can My Fence Be?
Pea Ridge sets one fence height in its zoning code, and it covers the whole lot.
How tall can a fence be at a Pea Ridge home?
8 feet. Pea Ridge’s zoning code says fences shall not exceed eight feet unless the Planning Commission approves more (Sec. 14.04.09). Above 7 feet, a fence can also need a building permit; see Permits below.
Does Pea Ridge cap a front-yard fence at 3 or 4 feet?
Not by the city. Pea Ridge’s fence rules set no separate front-yard height, and the zoning code lets fences sit inside setbacks as long as they do not block visibility (Sec. 14.04.07). Your neighborhood covenants may be stricter than the city, and we read them before quoting.
Can a fence ever go over 8 feet?
With Planning Commission approval. Fencing in the industrial district, and fences around tennis courts and other recreational amenities, are exempt from the 8-foot limit.
Where Can A Fence Go?
Pea Ridge lets a fence sit in a setback. Corners are where it gets careful.
Can my fence go inside the setback?
Yes. Pea Ridge allows fences, walls and signs inside a setback, so long as they do not obstruct site visibility (Sec. 14.04.07).
What about corner lots?
Keep the sight triangle clear. At a corner where two two-way streets meet, picture a triangle that runs 25 feet from the corner along each street-side property line. Nothing inside it may block vision between 2 and 8 feet above the curb (Sec. 14.04.09). Pea Ridge can enlarge the triangle for traffic safety. Our fence lines go around it.
Which Side Faces Out?
Pea Ridge writes the finished-side rule into its zoning code.
Which side has to face the neighbors?
The finished side. In a residential district the posts and rails belong inside the fenced area, or out of sight of anyone outside it (Sec. 14.04.09).
Are there exceptions?
Two. A fence along a nonresidential zoning district is exempt. So is one where the neighboring lot owner agrees to a plan with the posts on the outside, and we ask for that agreement in writing.
Do steel posts need a finish?
Yes, unless they are galvanized. Exposed steel must have a color finish coat and be protected from rust and corrosion, with galvanized metal as the one exception (Sec. 14.04.09).
What does Pea Ridge expect for upkeep?
Upright and complete. A fence has to be kept upright and in the condition it was built in. Missing boards, pickets or posts are to be replaced promptly with material of the same type and quality (Sec. 14.04.09).
Permits
Pea Ridge has no separate fence permit. The building code draws the line.
Does a 6-foot privacy fence need a permit in Pea Ridge?
Usually not, but we check. Pea Ridge’s code has no fence permit, its building permit chapter lists houses, apartments, business buildings and public buildings, and the state residential code exempts fences up to 7 feet from a building permit. Because the city’s code is not explicit about fences, we confirm with the Building Official before every Pea Ridge job.
What if the fence is taller than 7 feet?
Then plan on a building permit from the Pea Ridge Building Department, (479) 451-1122 ext. 106, and zoning still caps the fence at 8 feet without Planning Commission approval. When a fence needs a permit, we pull it for you.
Does no permit mean no rules?
No. Everything on this page applies with or without a permit: the 8-foot limit, the corner sight triangle, the finished side facing out and the one-acre barbed wire limit.
Pools
The state residential code sends pools to the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code. Its barrier rules decide what a pool fence in Pea Ridge must be.
How tall does a pool fence have to be?
48 inches, measured on the outside of the fence, and that height has to hold for 3 feet out from the fence so nothing outside becomes a step up.
How big can the gaps be?
Smaller than a 4-inch ball. No opening may let a 4-inch sphere through, and the gap under the fence can be no more than 2 inches over grass or gravel, or 4 inches over concrete.
Can I use chain link around a pool?
Only small mesh. Chain link openings can be no larger than 1-3/4 inches, so standard 2-inch mesh does not qualify. We use 1-1/4-inch pool mesh.
Does it matter which side the rails are on?
Yes. If the tops of the horizontal rails are less than 45 inches apart, the rails go on the pool side and pickets can be no more than 1-3/4 inches apart. With rails 45 inches or more apart, pickets can be up to 4 inches apart.
What does the gate need?
Self-closing and self-latching. It must open away from the pool and take a lock, with the latch release at least 54 inches up unless the release is on the pool side. On a double gate, one leaf stays secured in place.
Does the pool need a permit?
Plan on one. Pea Ridge requires a building permit to build a structure, and a pool is one. We confirm what the Building Department needs for the pool and its barrier before we build.
Barbed Wire And Electric Fences
Pea Ridge draws this line at one acre.
Can I put up barbed wire or an electric fence?
Not on a lot under 1 acre. Barbed wire and electrified fences are prohibited on all lots of less than one acre (Sec. 14.04.09). At an acre and up, the city’s fence rules do not prohibit them.
What can I use for animals on a smaller lot?
Woven wire, no-climb and field fence all work without barbs or a charge, and we build all three.
