WHO WE ARE
Don't Rely On Luck. Trust Your Neighbor.
Kismet Fence is a locally owned Licensed Contractor, No. 0446811126, working across Northwest Arkansas. We are based in Farmington rather than Siloam Springs, and we would rather say that plainly than pretend otherwise.
What we bring to a Siloam Springs job is that we have read this city’s fence section rather than assuming it matches the town next door. Siloam Springs allows seven feet where its neighbours allow six or eight, charges a published permit fee, and inspects the site before the fence goes in rather than after.
Our philosophy: quality over volume. The parts of a fence you cannot see are the parts that fail first, so those are the parts we spend money on.
It’s why we dig our post holes deeper.
It’s why metal frames and metal posts are standard on every wood gate we build, so they never sag.
It’s why our workmanship warranty runs for the lifetime of the fence.

CUSTOM WOOD & PRIVACY FENCES
Seven feet is what Siloam Springs allows in residential districts, which is a foot more than several towns nearby and a genuinely useful extra course of pickets.
Styles: Side-by-side, board-on-board, shadowbox and horizontal, in premium cedar or pressure-treated pine. Dog-ear pickets come standard.
Built to last: Metal frames and metal posts on every gate, with PostMaster steel posts available where you want the frame to outlive the boards.
Where solid fence is limited: on the front property line an opaque fence is capped at three feet. Privacy belongs behind the front setback, and we lay that out with you before quoting.
ORNAMENTAL STEEL & ALUMINUM
On the front property line, being able to see through your fence buys you two extra feet.
An opaque fence there is capped at three feet. Anything you can see through can go to five. Ornamental metal is the straightforward way to get height at the front without a variance.
Styles: Flat top, extended picket, puppy pickets to keep small dogs in, and commercial-grade steel.
Applications: Front property lines, corner lots where the 30-inch sight triangle limit applies, pool enclosures and boundary marking.

RESIDENTIAL & COMMERCIAL CHAIN LINK FENCES
The most cost-effective way to enclose a yard, a dog run or a jobsite.
Residential: Galvanized steel or black vinyl-coated mesh. Black disappears against a treeline, which is why most back yards pick it.
Commercial & Industrial: Heavy-duty mesh with security options, privacy slats and proper tension throughout. Siloam Springs allows eight feet in commercial districts and twelve in industrial, the tallest allowance in the area.
Worth knowing: chain link reads as non-opaque, so it can go to five feet on a front property line where a solid panel is capped at three.
VINYL & COMPOSITE
The lowest-maintenance fence we build. No staining, no sealing, no rot, no gray fade after three summers.
Vinyl: Solid privacy panels in white and tan, with heavier wall thickness than big-box panels.
Composite: Trex and similar systems, giving you a modern horizontal board look without the annual upkeep.
Why it fits here: the city requires fences and walls to be maintained structurally sound and in good repair, and vinyl and composite are the easiest way to never think about that again.

FARM & RANCH FENCES
Siloam Springs sits on the western edge of the metro with real acreage around it, and the city sets specific distances for animal enclosures.
Wire & Field Fence: High-tensile woven wire, no-barb horse fencing and traditional field fence.
Livestock pens: newly installed pens or enclosures must be built not less than 100 feet from any residence or business establishment.
Dog runs: an outdoor dog pen must sit at least 40 feet from any dwelling other than your own, with at least 100 square feet per dog. That is a layout question before it is a materials question.
GATE AUTOMATION
A gate is the part of the fence you touch every day, so it is the part worth doing properly.
Gate Types: Walk gates, estate gates, cantilever and sliding systems.
Power & Tech: Solar or hard-wired openers with keypad, remote and smartphone control, plus wired or wireless audio and video integration.
Plan the driveway gate early: a gate across the front sits where the three-foot opaque limit applies, and on a corner lot the sight triangle allows nothing stationary over 30 inches. Both are far cheaper to design around than to move.

Siloam Springs Fence Rules Code & Permit Guide
Plain English answers about fences in Siloam Springs, written from Section 102-80 of the city code. Siloam Springs allows seven feet in residential districts, charges a published permit fee, and inspects the site before you build — all three of which differ from the towns next door.
How Tall Can My Fence Be?
Siloam Springs sets height by zoning district, and the residential number is unusual for this area.
What is the limit in a Siloam Springs neighbourhood?
Seven feet in the residential districts — R-E, R-1, R-2, R-3, R-4, M-H and R-O.
Seven feet? That is not a number I see elsewhere.
It is unusual. Most towns around here land on six or eight. Rogers and Springdale cap at six; Bella Vista and Prairie Grove allow eight.
Worth not confusing it with Fayetteville, where seven feet is the point a building permit kicks in rather than a height limit.
What about commercial or industrial property?
- Eight feet in C-1A, G-I, C-1 and C-2
- Twelve feet in I-1 and I-2
Twelve feet is the tallest allowance we have found in any city in the area.
Is the seven feet measured from my side or my neighbour’s?
Grade differences are exactly the sort of thing worth settling before the posts go in. On a sloping lot we work the heights out on site rather than assuming.
The Front Yard Rule Is About Seeing Through, Not Just Height
On the property line at the front, the material decides how tall you can go.
Can I run a privacy fence along the front property line?
Not above three feet. The code says no opaque fence or wall higher than three feet may be erected on the property line that abuts the public right of way contiguous to the front setback.
And if I can see through it?
Then five feet. The same sentence caps everything at five feet regardless of type.
So the practical answer on that front line is three feet if solid, five feet if open.
Is that the same as other towns?
Same idea, different numbers. Prairie Grove uses 36 inches solid and 48 inches see-through. Siloam Springs uses three feet and five feet.
Two cities that reward open material with extra height, and neither one matches the other.
What does that mean for what I should build?
If you want height at the front, ornamental metal or another open style gets you two extra feet that a solid panel will not. If you want privacy, it belongs behind the front setback.
Permits
Required here, with a published fee and an inspection that happens before you build.
Do I need a fence permit in Siloam Springs?
Yes. No person may erect, construct, place or replace a fence or dividing wall on a lot without first obtaining a fence permit.
What if I am just fixing my existing fence?
Maintenance and repair of an existing fence or wall are exempt.
Relocations and extensions are not exempt — those need a permit.
What does it cost?
$10.00 in residential zones and $25.00 in all other zones. Siloam Springs is the only city around here that publishes its fence permit fee.
What does the application need?
Plans showing the property boundary lines, existing permanent structures, the proposed location of the fence, its dimensions, and the proposed construction materials.
Is there an inspection?
Yes, and this is the part that affects scheduling: a site inspection is required prior to installation.
That is the reverse of Bella Vista, which inspects when the fence is finished. Here the city looks before you build.
Do you handle it?
Yes. The plans and the inspection scheduling are part of what we do.
Materials: What Siloam Springs Does Not Restrict
A rare case where the answer is that there are no rules.
Are there materials I am not allowed to use?
Not in the city code. We checked the zoning chapter and the property maintenance code, and neither restricts fence materials.
Not even barbed wire or electric fence?
Neither chapter contains a prohibition on barbed wire, razor wire or electric fencing, and there is no prohibited-materials list.
That is genuinely unusual. Springdale bans plywood, pallets, chicken wire and corrugated steel. Prairie Grove bans sheet metal and scrap wood. Bella Vista bans razor wire outright.
So I can build anything?
Within the height, placement and permit rules, the material choice is yours as far as the city code goes.
Two caveats worth saying plainly. A subdivision or HOA can impose its own material rules privately, and those are enforceable whatever the city says. And the permit application asks you to state your construction materials, so the city still sees what you are proposing.
Does that mean barbed wire in a back yard is a good idea?
Legal and advisable are different questions. We will build what the code allows, and we will tell you when we think something is a poor fit for a residential property.
Sight Lines At Corners
The most precisely defined sight triangle of any city nearby, and the height limit inside it is low.
Is there a sight triangle rule?
Yes. No fence or wall may be erected within the sight distance triangle.
How is the triangle measured?
The apex is where the two street curb lines or pavement edges intersect. The shorter leg runs 18 feet from that apex along the abutting curb. The longer leg is set by the class of street, from a chart in the code. The hypotenuse joins the two.
How tall can anything be inside it?
Nothing stationary, permanent or temporary, taller than 30 inches — measured from the pavement elevation the vehicle rests on, not from the ground at your fence.
Thirty inches is very low.
It is, and the measuring point matters. On a lot that sits above the road, 30 inches from the pavement can be less than 30 inches of visible fence.
Corner lots are where we most often adjust a plan, and it is cheaper to do that on paper.
Anything exempt?
Traffic control devices and structures put up by or for a governmental entity. Mailboxes and similar small features are not treated as structures for setback purposes.
Dogs And Animal Enclosures
Siloam Springs sets a specific spec for outdoor dog pens, and a signage rule for invisible fences.
Do I have to fence my dog?
You must confine the animal — in an adequate pen or enclosure, inside a house, garage or building, or by a chain or leash affixed to the collar.
So unlike Prairie Grove, tethering is an option here.
Is there a spec for a dog pen?
Yes, and it is specific. An outdoor dog pen must be located a minimum of 40 feet from any dwelling other than the owner’s, and must provide at least 100 square feet per dog over six months of age.
Forty feet is a long way on a normal lot.
It is, and it is measured to the neighbour’s house, not the property line. On a tight lot that can decide where a pen can physically go, which is a layout question worth working through before you buy materials.
I want an invisible fence. Anything to know?
Yes, and most people do not know this one. Any wireless electronic or invisible underground enclosure or fence must be marked and identified by appropriate signage, sufficient to warn people lawfully on the property.
The sign is part of the installation here, not an optional extra.
What counts as a pen?
Broadly defined: fenced pastures and fields, corrals, paddocks, yards, cages, coops, hutches, stables, stalls, chicken houses, barns and sheds. An ordinary fenced yard can fall under the pen rules.
Livestock?
Newly installed pens or enclosures where livestock are kept must be built not less than 100 feet from any residence or business establishment, and livestock keeping has to comply with the zoning code.
Pools
The barrier rules come from the state code rather than a local ordinance.
Does Siloam Springs have its own pool fence rule?
Not in the zoning chapter or the property maintenance code. Neither sets pool barrier requirements.
So what applies?
The city has adopted the Arkansas Fire Prevention Code by reference, and the pool barrier requirements come through that.
What does that mean practically?
That the standard is a state one rather than a local number we can quote you off a city page. For a pool enclosure we work to the adopted code and confirm the current requirements with the building official rather than guessing.
Anything else about pools?
One quirk worth knowing: for zoning purposes, an in-ground swimming pool is treated as a structure regardless of height, which matters for setbacks.
Keeping It Standing, And Project Cars
The maintenance duty, and one rule where a fence is not the answer.
Does the city care about the condition of my fence?
Yes. All accessory structures, including detached garages, fences and walls, must be maintained structurally sound and in good repair.
Is there a specific test for that?
Not here. Bella Vista publishes a measurable trigger — more than five percent damaged or leaning ten degrees. Siloam Springs keeps it to the general standard.
Can I put a fence around a project car?
That will not solve it here. An inoperative or unlicensed vehicle may not be parked, kept or stored on any premises unless fully contained within an enclosed structure.
Is that the same everywhere nearby?
No, and it is a good example of why these rules are worth checking. In Farmington, screening the vehicle behind a solid fence does satisfy the rule. In Siloam Springs and Bentonville it takes a building.
Living On The State Line
Siloam Springs sits on the Oklahoma border, which raises a question no other town in the area does.
My property is near the state line. Whose rules apply?
Whichever jurisdiction the property actually sits in. Siloam Springs city limits end at the state line, and West Siloam Springs, Oklahoma has its own ordinances.
Why does that matter for a fence?
Because everything on this page — the seven feet, the permit, the $10 fee, the 30-inch sight triangle — is Siloam Springs, Arkansas. None of it carries across the line.
Do you work on both sides?
We work across Northwest Arkansas. For a property on the Oklahoma side we would confirm the local requirements before quoting rather than assuming the Arkansas rules apply.
Who To Call, And What We Do
Where these rules come from and how to reach the people who administer them.
Which ordinance is this?
Section 102-80 of the Siloam Springs Code of Ordinances, in the zoning chapter. Adopted by Ordinance 08-26 and amended by Ordinances 15-24 and 20-32.
Is the online code current?
It is. The published code is codified through Ordinance 25-39, enacted in December 2025, which is more current than several neighbouring cities.
Do you do commercial work in Siloam Springs?
Yes. Security fence, screening, dumpster enclosures, gates and access control — and the commercial and industrial height allowances here are generous at eight and twelve feet.
You are not based in Siloam Springs. Why call you?
We are in Farmington, and we would rather say that than pretend otherwise. What we bring is that we have read this city’s fence section rather than assuming it matches the town next door — which, as this page shows, it does not.

Rules change. Confirm anything critical with the city before you build.
